3-hour parking now at J St Marina

A couple of weeks ago, I talked about how parking at the J St Marina has been getting harder to find, and it looks like changes are already happening.

Lately, every time I’ve been down there, the lots have been packed, not just in front of the Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center, but also in the older parking area near the marina and pier. What stood out was that the number of cars didn’t really match the number of people actually out enjoying the park, so it was pretty clear the spaces were being used for more than just marina visitors.

Now the Port of San Diego has stepped in. After doing a parking lot analysis, they’ve put in a new three-hour parking limit at the J Street Marina. This is now in effect seven days a week, so if you’re heading down there, make sure you’re keeping an eye on the time.

I haven’t heard of any tickets or towing yet, but I’d expect enforcement to start picking up soon. With the new resort open and more bayfront construction underway, parking will only get tighter as spaces continue to be reduced or repurposed for future projects.

I’ll keep watching what happens and share updates as things change, so stay tuned.

This post got over 2000+ comments

That one post really took off. Between Instagram and Facebook, it brought in more than 2,000 comments, and it was fun seeing how many of you showed up to talk about the places you miss most.

Last week, I asked which spot you would bring back if you could: Fun 4 All, Souplantation, Fuddruckers, or Vogue Theater. I went through the comments and counted the votes; the winner was Souplantation with 386 votes. Right behind it was Fuddruckers, which made it a close race.

Personally, I’d love to see Souplantation make a comeback, too. I know a lot of us have good memories there. But Fuddruckers also brought back a lot of nostalgia, and judging by the comments, I know I’m not alone on that.

The conversation is still going, and people are still commenting, so if you want to add your vote, head over to the original post on my Instagram or Facebook page. And who knows, maybe I’ll do another one with even more local spots we all miss.

New Filipino owned coffee shop Sinta open

Sinta Bakery & Cafe is a new Filipina-owned bakery and café located at 1970 Avenida Escaya, Suite 107 in the Village of Escaya, Otay Ranch in Chula Vista. Just like beloved local spots Galu and The Coffee Machine, Sinta is already earning a loyal following after its soft opening, with the community turning out in full force to show their support.

The space is clean, charming, and filled with subtle nods to Filipino culture. Seating is available inside and out, and the café is dog-friendly. The young owner has clearly poured her heart into the business, and it shows in every detail — from the thoughtfully crafted menu to the warm, hardworking staff.

The menu is the real draw. Standout items include the Mahal Lahaina cupcake, Ube Tart, Puff Pastry, and the wildly popular Bibingka Donut — which sells out fast, often before mid-morning. On the drinks side, the Mrs. Nguyen Vietnamese coffee, Hojicha, and Matcha are already fan favorites. Sinta also takes on wedding cake orders for those with events on the horizon.

Parking is manageable with a little patience, and since the café sits beneath residential apartments, visitors are encouraged to be considerate of neighbors. As a soft-opening business still finding its footing, a little patience with the staff goes a long way, too.

Sinta is open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM and Sunday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A grand opening event is planned for later this summer.
This is exactly the kind of local business Chula Vista loves to rally behind. Go early, try as much as you can, and keep an eye out for that grand opening announcement.

Sinta Bakery & Cafe is a new Filipino owned Bakery & Café in Escaya Village

If you know me, you know I love finding and supporting local coffee shops and cafés around Chula Vista. Spots like Galu down in Downtown Chula Vista and The Coffee Machine on Oxford Street are exactly the kind of places that give this city its character, and I’m always excited when a new one opens up. So when I heard about Sinta Bakery & Cafe, a brand new Filipina-owned bakery and café in the Village of Escaya, I had to check it out. Honestly, I only wish I lived a little closer, because I have a feeling I’d be there way too often.

A New Chula Vista Favorite in the Village of Escaya

Sinta is tucked into Otay Ranch right off Heritage Road, and if the early buzz from the community is any indication, this place is going to be a staple. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the love that went into it. The space is clean and charming with subtle nods to Filipino culture throughout. They have seating inside and out, and yes, they’re dog-friendly.

I recently made it out to Sinta myself, and I’m glad I did. I went with the Ube Tart, the Bibingka Donut, and the Mrs. Nguyen coffee — a Vietnamese blend that runs a little stronger than your typical café drink, which I appreciated. The Bibingka Donut lives up to the hype. It’s one of their most popular items and sells out fast, so I got lucky on that one. The Ube Tart was delicious, and honestly, the hardest part of the visit was walking past the pastry case on the way out. There’s so much in there that looked incredible, and I barely made a dent. I’ll definitely be going back to work my way through the rest of it.

Since they’re still in soft-opening mode, I do want to give a heads-up: Be patient with the staff. They’re working hard and doing a great job, but like any new business finding its footing, things are still coming together. Give them grace and come with good energy.

The Menu: Treats Worth Waking Up Early For

The treats are the star of the show. Their cupcakes — especially the Mahal Lahaina — are super moist and not overly sweet, which seems to be a theme here. Everything is thoughtfully balanced. The Puff Pastry is getting early rave reviews for its flaky texture and perfectly restrained sweetness. And the Mini Ube, Mini Ube Leche Flan, and Mini Mango Matcha are already making people want to come back for more.

On the drinks side, their Hojicha and Matcha are getting a lot of love for being smooth and well-made, alongside Mrs. Nguyen’s Vietnamese coffee, which is already winning over regulars. And if you have a big event coming up, keep in mind that Sinta also does wedding cakes.

You can view their menu and learn more about them on the Sinta Bakery & Cafe website here.

A Few Things to Know Before You Go

Parking in the village can feel intimidating at first glance, but it’s more manageable than it looks. There are dedicated retail spots, and if those fill up, street parking along the outskirts and near Escaya Park is a short walk away. Also, the space sits right under the apartments above, so just be mindful of the residents when you’re visiting.

One thing I’d personally love to see added down the road is public WiFi. As someone who likes to sit and work from a good local café, it would make Sinta an easy go-to. That said, the space is cozy and on the smaller side, so I completely understand why that hasn’t been a priority yet — and it doesn’t detract from the experience.

Go Support Sinta and Watch for Their Grand Opening This Summer

The team consistently gets called out for being warm, hardworking, and genuinely welcoming — which matters. Good food with good energy makes all the difference, and Sinta has both. You can tell the owner put her heart into this place, and the people she has working alongside her reflect that same spirit.

This is exactly the kind of local business worth supporting. A young Filipina entrepreneur building something real in our community deserves our business and our word-of-mouth. If you’re in the South Bay, go check out Sinta. Get there early, grab a Bibingka Donut if they’re still in stock, and order the Hojicha or the Mrs. Nguyen if you want something with a little more kick. You’ll be back.

One more thing to look forward to: Sinta will be hosting a grand opening event later this summer. I’ll keep everyone posted as soon as details are announced, so stay tuned.

The Search Bar in Eastlake

Over the weekend, I checked out The Search Bar & Restaurant again, and it continues to be one of my favorite spots in the area. The food is always solid, and this time I tried the fish and chips along with the steak. The steak really stood out and definitely impressed me. You can’t beat this steak for the price. It was so good.

If you haven’t been out there yet for lunch or dinner, it’s worth checking out. The staff is friendly, and the overall vibe makes it an easy place to hang out. Big thank you to Paul for having me out and taking the time to share what he’s planning for the summer.

From what he told me, they’re getting ready to bring in live music, DJ nights, bingo, and more. It sounds like they’re building something fun for the community, and honestly, there aren’t a lot of spots like this in Eastlake right now. You can also rent the back area for any kind of event you want so make sure you contact them.

Make sure to follow them on social media to stay updated. Let me know if you’ve been and what you think. I’ll see you out there, Chula Vista.

I Got Invited to Try HotWorx Chula Vista and Now I’m Completely Hooked

Alright, I have to tell you about something. A few weeks ago, the team at HotWorx Chula Vista in the Millenia community reached out and invited me to check out their studio and try a workout. And listen, I’ll be honest with you, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’d heard people buzzing about infrared fitness, but I figured it was one of those trendy things that sounds cooler than it actually is. But WOW, I was so wrong.

From the second I walked through the door, I could tell this place was different. The staff was warm and welcoming, the studio was clean and modern, and the whole experience just felt intentional. Then I actually did the workout, and that’s when it really clicked. I walked out of there drenched in sweat, completely energized, and genuinely surprised by how much my body had done in such a short amount of time. I immediately texted three of my friends about it, and now I’m telling all of you too.

So What Exactly Is HotWorx Chula Vista?

HotWorx Chula Vista is a 24-hour infrared fitness studio, and it’s not like any gym you’ve been to before. Their whole thing is built around what they call “3D Training,” which combines heat, exercise, and infrared energy into one seriously effective workout. It goes way beyond what you’d get at a traditional gym. We’re talking calorie burning, detoxification, better blood flow, and honestly just a whole vibe that makes you feel like you’re healing from the inside out.

When you sign up, you get your own personal code to open the door. You’re a VIP from day one. That means you can roll in and get your workout done any hour of the day or night. Early bird? Cool. Night owl? Also cool. HotWorx doesn’t judge.

What the Workouts at HotWorx Chula Vista Actually Look Like

Here’s where it gets fun. Around the corner from the entrance, you’ll find a handful of infrared sauna workout rooms. These rooms are small on purpose, fitting just one to three people each. They’re set up for all kinds of workouts like yoga, pilates, isometric compression, bands, cycling, rowing, and cardio HIIT.

Classes run anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes and are led by professional trainers on screen. You book your class through the app ahead of time, show up, and get right to it. No standing around. No waiting for equipment. Just you, the heat, and the work.

And don’t let the short class times fool you. These workouts pack a serious punch. The combo of infrared technology and high temps means one short session can deliver the same benefits as a much longer workout at a regular gym. You’ll feel it right away, trust me.

Oh, and if you’re more of a free weights person, they’ve got you covered, too. HotWorx also has a space called the “FX Zone” with free weights, ropes, and other workout equipment. You can use it on your own or as a warm-up before hopping into an infrared session.

Why Infrared Workouts at HotWorx Chula Vista Hit Different

Let’s talk about what makes the infrared piece so special. Michelle, the Franchise Owner (and honestly a total powerhouse of motivation), says that infrared isn’t a luxury anymore. It’s something our bodies actually need. With all the toxins, pollutants, and stress floating around in our everyday lives, taking the time to care for our insides is more important than ever.

So what does infrared actually do for your body? A whole lot, it turns out.

For starters, infrared light penetrates about 1.5 to 2 inches below your skin’s surface. That deep heating warms your muscles, joints, and organs from the inside, which helps your body release toxins through a deep, satisfying sweat. It also improves circulation and oxygen delivery, so your muscles get more of what they need to perform well and recover faster.

Then there’s the calorie burn. Because the heat naturally raises your heart rate, you end up burning more calories in the same amount of time compared to a regular workout. And the best part? That calorie burn keeps going even after you leave the studio. Your body is literally still working for you while you’re grabbing your post-workout smoothie.

Infrared heat is also amazing for muscle recovery. It relaxes your muscles, reduces stiffness, and speeds up healing after a tough session. Athletes and trainers have been using infrared for years to support joint mobility, and now you can get that same benefit right here in Chula Vista.

On top of all that, infrared workouts can boost collagen production and cell regeneration, which means your skin gets a nice glow, too. It also supports your immune system by slightly raising your core temperature, kind of like mimicking a mild fever to help your body fight off infections. And if you’ve been dealing with stress or trouble sleeping, infrared heat promotes deep relaxation, lowers cortisol, and can seriously improve your mood and sleep quality.

Honestly, it’s a lot of benefits packed into one short workout.

HotWorx Chula Vista also has traditional workout equipment you can use.

The HotWorx Chula Vista Community Is Everything

What really sets HotWorx Chula Vista apart from other gyms is the energy. The team at the studio is friendly, encouraging, and genuinely invested in your journey. Michelle and her crew host calorie-burning challenges for their members, whom they lovingly call “Hotties.” Top achievers win real prizes, and the whole thing creates this fun, motivating atmosphere that keeps you coming back.

With mottos like “Earn the Burn” and “Embrace the Shake,” you know they mean business, but they’re having a great time doing it.

Just Start. Show Up. Walk in the Door.

When we asked Michelle what she’d say to people who are ready to take their health seriously this year, she kept it simple. “Start now. Show up for yourself. Walk in the door. That’s it. It can’t get any simpler.”

And honestly? She’s right. Short classes, 24-hour access, and a huge return for a small time commitment make HotWorx Chula Vista one of the easiest ways to level up your fitness game in 2026. Whether you’re brand new to working out or you’ve been at it for years, there’s something here for you.

So if you’re in the Chula Vista area and you’ve been looking for something different, something that actually works and feels good while doing it, go check out HotWorx in Millenia. Tell them your favorite Chula Vista blogger sent you.

And make sure you follow HotWorx Chula Vista on social media to stay in the loop on news, promotions, and everything happening at the studio. One thing I really love about this team is how much they care about being part of our Chula Vista community. They recently hosted a community event featuring local vendors, and it was such a great time. Word on the street is that they’re already planning another one, so keep an eye on their pages so you don’t miss it.
