Finally! Life Time Fitness Chula Vista Opens this December in Cota Vera

What is happening, Chula Vista?! Hold onto your wallets because Life Time Fitness Chula Vista is about to become the most expensive gym membership you’ll ever consider. And honestly? I’m not even mad about it.

This shiny new fitness palace is opening in the Côta Vera community at the end of the year, and let me tell you, it’s been the talk of the town. Every time I’m out and about, someone asks me about it. “When’s it opening?” “How much will it cost?” “Will they have those fancy towels?” Well, Chula Vista, I’ve got answers, some answers.

What Makes Lifetime Fitness Special?

Life Time (yes, they spell it weird) isn’t your average gym where the AC barely works and half the machines have “Out of Order” signs. This company has over 175 locations across the United States, and they’re basically the country club of fitness centers.

I actually visited their La Jolla location last month. Walking in felt like entering a fancy hotel. The locker rooms had actual towel service, the equipment was spotless, and I swear I saw someone getting a massage between sets. It was like Planet Fitness’s wealthy cousin who went to private school.

The company began in 1992 in Minnesota and has since grown from a regular gym into a comprehensive lifestyle brand. They don’t just do fitness anymore. They offer coworking spaces, fine dining, and even develop residential communities. It’s as if they want to take over your entire life, but in a strangely appealing way.

What’s Coming to Chula Vista?

The new Life Time Fitness Chula Vista will be at 1650 East Main Street, right near Central Square Park and The Residences at Côta Vera. If you’ve driven by recently, you’ve likely seen the massive building being constructed. My wife was joking that it looks bigger than some shopping malls, and honestly, she’s not wrong.

This place is going to have everything the La Jolla location has and more. We’re talking about a huge workout floor, studio classes for every fitness trend you can imagine, enough treadmills to outfit a small army, tennis courts, pickleball courts, an indoor pool, and locker rooms that look better than my condo.

Oh, and here’s the kicker: they’ll have a restaurant and bar inside. I’m already planning my post-workout happy hour. Nothing says “I crushed leg day” like a nice cold beer, right? Although I’m still wondering if they’ll deliver drinks to the squat rack.

The Price Tag (Brace Yourself)

Now for the part that made me spit out my coffee when I first heard it. A single membership at Life Time Fitness Chula Vista will cost you $229 per month. Yes, you read that right. Two hundred and twenty-nine dollars. Every month.

If you’re married or have a partner, you’re looking at $349 monthly for a couple’s membership. And if you want to bring the whole family? A family of four will run you $449 per month. That’s more than some people’s car payments!

I did the math, and that’s over $5,000 a year for a family membership. My current gym costs me $30 a month, which suddenly feels like the deal of the century. But hey, my gym doesn’t have a pool, spa services, or someone to fold my towels for me. But one day I found a buzz ball in the bathroom so maybe there is a bar?

Not going to lie. This pool area looks really nice. It even has a slide. It just might be worth every penny. (Screenshot from Lifetime Fitness Video)

Is Life Time Fitness Chula Vista Worth It?

Look, I can’t lie. This place looks absolutely amazing. Their Instagram has a fly-through video that makes it look like a fitness wonderland. The equipment is top-notch, the facilities are gorgeous, and you get access to things most of us can only dream about.

But let’s be real here. For most of us regular folks, this is a pretty big splurge. That monthly fee could cover groceries for a family, a nice vacation fund, or about 47 burritos from Lolita’s Taco Shop.

However, if you’ve got the budget (Kudos to you) and you’re serious about fitness, this could be your new happy place. Plus, think about all the Instagram content you’ll get! Your followers will be so jealous of your fancy gym selfies.

Getting In Early

Life Time Fitness Chula Vista is scheduled to open in December, and they’re already taking memberships online. If you got on their waitlist, you might have received an invite to join early.

Here’s the good news: if you sign up now, they’ll waive the $300 per person enrollment fee. They’ll also throw in some Lifetime fitness swag, which I assume includes a really nice water bottle and maybe a t-shirt that costs more than my entire workout wardrobe.

My Plan (AKA Operation Guest Pass)

I’m definitely going to try to get a tour when they open. I want to see if this place lives up to all the hype. Perhaps I can convince one of you, the new members, to let me tag along as your guest sometime? I promise I won’t embarrass you by taking selfies in the fancy locker room.

In all seriousness, I’m excited to see what this brings to our community. Even if I can’t afford to join right now, it’s cool that Chula Vista is getting such a high-end fitness facility. It shows our city is growing and attracting some serious business.

What Do You Think?

So, Chula Vista, what’s the verdict? Are you excited about Lifetime Fitness Chula Vista? Will you be dropping nearly $2,800 a year for the ultimate gym experience? Or are you like me, perfectly happy with your current setup but curious to see what all the fuss is about?

Let me know on Facebook or Instagram what you think. And if you do end up joining, please remember your humble blogger who wrote about it first. I accept guest passes, smoothie invitations, and detailed reports about whether the towel service is as amazing as it sounds.

Until December, I’ll be at my regular gym, dreaming about poolside workouts and fancy locker rooms. But hey, at least my current membership fee leaves me enough money for post-workout gin & tonic!

Vista Palms Car Wash

0

Vista Palms Car Wash & Professional Detail Center in Chula Vista has been my go-to spot ever since I owned my first car. They have been on Broadway since 1958, so you know they know how to clean a car. I don’t go to those do-it-yourself spots. I love to pull up and have them clean my car while I wait in the sunroom watching TV.

What sets Vista Palms apart isn’t just their expert detailing. It’s the energy of the place. Friendly staff, a laid-back atmosphere in the waiting area with complimentary cold drinks, snacks, and WiFi, and a genuine commitment to making every customer happy. As someone who’s watched my own vehicles undergo countless transformations here, I’ve learned how their skilled crew treats every car like the only one that matters. Whether I’m rushing in for a quick express wash or taking time for a full detail, their attention to detail never wavers.

Last month, when I got back from my road trip to Utah, they detailed my car and WOW!! It was like brand new, even had that new car smell inside.

Beyond excellent service, Vista Palms stands out as a champion for eco-friendly practices. Their water reclaiming systems and careful use of green chemicals mean my love for a clean car doesn’t compromise our local beaches or waterways. It’s always reassuring to see local businesses do their part for the environment.

If you haven’t been, Vista Palms Car Wash is located right on Broadway in Chula Vista, and they’re open seven days a week. It’s the kind of local business I genuinely enjoy supporting, and I promise, your car will thank you for getting so clean.

Chula Vista El Grito Brings Community Together with Culture, Food, and Celebration

On Sunday, September 14th, the Chula Vista El Grito celebration lit up the Memorial Bowl with music, dance, and tradition. Families and friends gathered in large numbers to honor Mexico’s Independence Day, celebrating the historic cry for independence made by Father Miguel Hidalgo in 1810. The atmosphere was filled with pride, joy, and cultural connection that stretched across generations.

Everyone enjoyed the entertainment throughout the event.

The event featured dazzling performances, from colorful dancers to live music and artistry that highlighted the richness of Mexican heritage. The energy of the Chula Vista El Grito was undeniable, turning the evening into a true showcase of community spirit.

Adding to the festivities, the Chula Vista Farmers Market stayed open late to join in the celebration. Many residents enjoyed grabbing food from local vendors, while others browsed artisan booths filled with handmade crafts. This unique combination of cultural pride and local business made the night especially memorable.

While concerns over immigration enforcement lingered across San Diego, community leaders and Mayor John McCann reassured attendees that Chula Vista El Grito was a safe and family-friendly event. The Mexican consulate also confirmed that no celebrations were scaled back this year, reinforcing the importance of unity and cultural pride during Hispanic Heritage Month.

From the lively Chula Vista Farmers Market to the packed Memorial Bowl, Chula Vista El Grito proved once again to be a powerful reminder that heritage is best celebrated together.

Taste of Bonita 2025: This Fun Community Event Returns After 13 Years!

The Taste of Bonita is finally making its comeback, and it’s been a long time coming. The last time our community enjoyed this event was all the way back in 2012 at the Chula Vista Municipal Golf Course. After more than a decade away, this South Bay favorite is returning, and I couldn’t be more excited to see it back on the calendar.

If you’re new to the area or don’t quite remember, the Taste of Bonita was a highlight for local food lovers, bringing together great flavors and community fun. To give you some perspective, the last time this event was held I was still in middle school (LOL)! We even pulled some photos from the archives to show just how much of a community staple it was.

This year’s event is shaping up to be just as special, with a fresh lineup of local restaurants, live entertainment, and plenty of reasons to get your tickets now. Let’s take a look at what you can expect.

New Hosts, Same Delicious Mission

This time around, our beloved Bonita Museum & Cultural Center (you know, that gem at 4355 Bonita Road) is taking the reins, and honestly, could there be a more perfect match? These folks know how to throw a party while celebrating our community’s rich culture and history. Plus, the museum will be staying open late during the event – because nothing says “perfect evening” like great food AND fascinating exhibits!

Here’s the best part: every single bite you take is supporting free educational programs for over 5,000 school children and community members right here in the South Bay. Talk about eating for a good cause! Your enjoyment of some killer carne asada is literally helping kids learn – if that’s not a win-win, I don’t know what is.

The Taste of Bonita 2025 Food Lineup So Far

Okay, let’s talk about the real stars of the show – the FOOD! The organizers are still adding vendors (because apparently they want to make sure we all roll home happy), but here’s a sneak peek at some of the heavy hitters already confirmed:

Lolita’s Mexican Food – Oh honey, if you haven’t experienced their legendary carne asada fries, have you even lived in San Diego? This family-owned treasure has been slinging authentic Mexican goodness since 1984, and their Bonita location on Bonita Road is basically a local shrine to deliciousness. Those California burritos? Chef’s kiss

Murrieta’s Fine Mexican Food – These folks don’t mess around when it comes to flavor! Known for their generous portions and margaritas that could make you forget your own name (in the best way), Murrieta’s brings that festive vibe with live music and a cozy patio atmosphere. Their champagne brunch game is strong, so imagine what they’re bringing to this evening event!

Flora Cafe – Now here’s where things get interesting! This charming little spot in the Vons Shopping Center has been winning hearts with its flower-named specialty drinks (hello, Lavender Latte!) and Instagram-worthy floral decor. Their Chicken Pesto Panini and Sourdough Cinnamon Roll are about to become your new obsessions. If you haven’t visited Flora Cafe, be sure to check out our very own Mr. Chula Vista’s video about them. He visited their brand new location when they first opened up, and you know he loves to highlight all the good spots.

If you haven’t visited the new Flora Cafe, be sure to stop by their new location on Bonita Road. They will be a featured participant at the Taste of Bonita 2205 event.

More Than Just a Food Festival

Look, we all love to eat (obviously), but this event is serving up so much more than just amazing food. You’re getting:

  • A chance to explore local restaurants you might not have tried yet
  • An evening of live music to set the perfect mood
  • Late-night access to fascinating museum exhibits
  • The warm, fuzzy feeling of supporting local education
  • An excuse to hang out with friends and neighbors while stuffing your face – what’s not to love?
  • There will also be a silent auction & raffle throughout the evening

Get Your Tickets Before They’re Gone!

Alright, let’s talk logistics because I know you’re already mentally planning your outfit for this foodie extravaganza! Tickets are $50 for adults and $25 for kids – honestly, that’s a steal when you consider you’re getting tastes from multiple restaurants, live entertainment, AND you’re supporting education in our community. I’ve spent more than that on a mediocre dinner for two at some chain restaurant!

You can snag your tickets online through the Bonita Museum’s website, link here.

Calling All Local Restaurants!

Here’s a fun little insider scoop: they’re still accepting applications from local South Bay restaurants that want to join the party! So, if you have a favorite spot that’s not on the list yet, drop them a hint (or twelve). The more the merrier, right? All the details about participating are right there on the Bonita Museum’s website.

Mark Your Calendars (Seriously, Do It Now!)

  • When: Saturday, September 27th, 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
  • Where: Bonita Museum & Cultural Center, 4355 Bonita Road, Bonita
  • Why: Because your taste buds deserve it, and local kids need our support!

The Taste of Bonita is one of those events that comes around once in a blue moon (or apparently once every 13 years), so don’t be that person who says, “I’ll catch it next time.” Trust me, you don’t want to spend the next decade hearing everyone else rave about the fantastic food and fun atmosphere. Here’s hoping this amazing event becomes an annual tradition for our community – we definitely deserve to have this kind of celebration every year!

So grab your friends, bring your appetite, and get ready to taste your way through the best of what our Sweetwater Valley has to offer. Your stomach will thank you, local students will benefit, and you’ll have bragging rights for years to come.

See you there, Bonita! Let’s make this comeback even better than the original!

Suzette in Chula Vista

Exciting news for South Bay food lovers! Suzette, a new authentic French restaurant, has opened in Downtown Chula Vista, bringing European charm and chef-driven cuisine to 310 Third Avenue. The restaurant comes from Jerome Gombert, who made waves in 2006 with his beloved South Park eatery Vagabond. After a twelve-year journey that took him to Rosarito, back to France during the pandemic, and now to Chula Vista, Gombert is ready to share his passion for French cooking once again.

What makes Suzette special is the incredible team behind it. Chef Omar Armas, trained at Italy’s prestigious Apicius culinary school, leads the kitchen. Gombert also enlisted world-renowned chef Marcelo Hisaki to develop the menu and build the culinary team. Hisaki trained at Michelin-starred restaurants and competed in the Bocuse d’Or, often called the Olympics of cooking.

Currently open Wednesday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Suzette serves breakfast and lunch, featuring both sweet and savory crepes, croque-monsieurs, and other French classics. The 1,800-square-foot space, designed by Roderick Shade, uses orange, aqua, and off-white to create a bright, modern atmosphere that feels authentically French without the typical clichés. Large windows facing the street flood the space with natural light, while indoor seating for 40 and an outdoor patio for 30 provide plenty of options.

Dinner service is coming soon and will feature traditional dishes like coq au vin, steak au poivre, fish meunière, mussels, and the flaming crepe Suzette dessert that inspired the restaurant’s name. With carefully selected French wines available now and plans for full liquor service later, Suzette fills a notable gap in South Bay dining. Visit Wednesday through Sunday and experience a taste of Paris right here in Downtown Chula Vista.
