After I posted my video on Otay Farm Markets flour tortillas, many of you said I should check out Apple Tree Market on Broadway. I was there last week and gave them a try. They’re good but still don’t beat Carnival Market for flour tortillas. These would be my second favorite spot.
The market is excellent, and they have plenty of stuff. If you’re looking for a birthday cake, then make sure you check them out. They have a lot of lovely cakes to purchase. You will also find a whole pan dulce section. The produce looked good, and I got a bollio, which didn’t even come close to Otay Farm Market.
I love to see fantastic events like this, and the Chula Vista Day of the Child was a lot of fun. Hosted at Memorial Park, this vibrant event brought our community together to focus on the health and wellness of our little ones. From eye-catching classic cars and energetic dance performances to educational health booths and opportunities for community engagement, our video transports you right into the heart of the festivities.

Hey, Chula Vista book lovers and community members! Exciting news from the heart of Otay Ranch Town Center—the Chula Vista Public Library has just opened its doors at a brand-new spot! I had the pleasure of touring this expanded space; let me tell you, it’s a game-changer. Nestled just a few doors down from its former nook in the food court, this new setup is more spacious and buzzing with fresh features.
Step in, and you’ll find cozy seating aplenty, an inviting reading area for the kids, a bank of computers ready for use, and yes, even a collection of DVDs for those nostalgic for a movie night the old-fashioned way. Remember, this is a temporary location—something even more significant is on the horizon! The future permanent home will be in the Univer-City building, which promises three levels of library bliss.
I know some of you have been curious about passport services. While they’re unavailable just yet, plans are in the works to include them soon. I’ll keep you updated.
Have you checked out the new library location yet? If so, please comment with your thoughts—I’d love to hear from you!

On a Tuesday morning, the Otay Ranch Town Center was buzzing with friendly conversations over Coffee between Chula Vista residents and the men and women who serve to protect their community. The Chula Vista Police Department hosted another successful ‘Coffee with a Cop’ event, an informal gathering to unite officers and the public to foster open dialogue and strengthen community relations.
This was my first time attending this event. I have always wanted to ask some questions and see how this event can benefit our community. I’m still hoping for a ‘Beer with a Cop’ event, but Coffee can also work.
Over 13 police officers from various departments and city staff members were on hand to answer questions, provide information, and engage with attendees in a relaxed setting. Despite being held during the workweek, the event saw a good turnout from the community.
So, what is the Coffee with a Cop event?
The ‘Coffee with a Cop’ event provided a platform for residents like me to voice our concerns about parking enforcement and traffic accidents. The officers at the event addressed these concerns. They acknowledged the challenges posed by staffing shortages, reassuring us of their commitment to improving parking enforcement and raising awareness about safe driving practices.
The ‘Coffee with a Cop’ event left a lasting impact on the attendees, who praised the officers’ approachability and willingness to address their queries. Chief of Police Roxana Kennedy further underscored the department’s commitment to community engagement, leaving attendees with renewed confidence in their local law enforcement.
One of the event’s highlights was the simple act of officers assisting attendees in getting their Coffee, which helped break the ice and facilitated friendly conversations. The casual atmosphere encouraged open discussions and fostered positive interactions between law enforcement and the community they serve.
As this event came to an end, many of us expressed our appreciation for the opportunity to connect with the Chula Vista Police Department. They also left with a renewed sense of confidence in their local law enforcement and a deeper understanding of the department’s efforts to serve the community effectively.
Chula Vista Coffee with a Cop event is a great way for the community to come out and ask questions. The event I went to featured Chief Roxana Kennedy.
When and where is the next event so I can go?
The next ‘Coffee with a Cop’ event is already in the works, this time in the Eastlake area, addressing concerns about the lack of a police station in that region. The Chula Vista Police Department is steadfast in its commitment to ensuring accessible and responsive policing services throughout the city, and this event is another step towards that goal.
Residents of Chula Vista are encouraged to attend the upcoming event, as these gatherings play a vital role in bridging the gap between law enforcement and the community they serve. By fostering open communication and positive interactions, “Coffee with a Cop” events aim to build trust, dispel misconceptions, and create a safer, more cohesive community for all.
Be sure to follow @ChulaVistaLiving on Instagram for updates on when the next Coffee with a Cop event will take place. For more information, you can also follow the official Chula Vista Police Department account at @ChulaVistaPD.
This past Saturday, Memorial Park in downtown Chula Vista transformed into a vibrant hub of activity and joy for the annual Chula Vista Day of the Child event hosted by the Chula Vista Community Collaborative. The turnout was fantastic, with more community members participating than ever before, making it a bustling day under the warm sun—perfect for education and entertainment.
Chula Vista Day of the Child event is all about community
As always, the focus of the Day of the Child is children’s health and wellness. Numerous vendors, especially community health groups, provided valuable information on maintaining healthy habits. The most significant presence was the San Ysidro Health Group, which set up various booths to cover different aspects of child health, making it an informative outing for parents and fun for the kids.
Classic cars were a new addition to the event
For the first time, the event featured an exciting display of low riders and classic cars brought in by local car clubs. These gleaming beauties were not just for show; attendees also had the opportunity to vote for their favorite, with trophies awarded for the people’s choice. The classic cars and energetic performances by local dance groups added an extraordinary flair that set this year’s event apart from the others.
A fun addition to the Chula Vista Day of the Child event were the awesome classic cars on display. Everyone had the chance to vote for their favorite.
The Heart Behind the Event: Chula Vista Community Collaborative
The Chula Vista Community Collaborative (ChulaVistaCC) was pivotal in orchestrating this enriching community event. Dedicated to ensuring collaboration among various partners and stakeholders, ChulaVistaCC draws together all local community sectors to develop coordinated strategies that protect Chula Vista’s residents’ health, safety, and wellness. Their work facilitates various issue-based coalitions, elevating community needs and voices and enhancing access to crucial services.
ChulaVistaCC oversees a network of Family Resource Centers (FRCs) as a gateway to a broad spectrum of family-strengthening services. These centers provide on-site services or partner referrals, ensuring that assistance is just a call or visit away, regardless of an individual’s circumstances.
A Community Comes Together
The organization of the event was impeccable. In another first, Third Avenue was closed off to traffic, providing more space for the classic cars and vendor booths, allowing for more straightforward navigation. I wish they had moved the vendors on the hillside to Parkway or Third Avenue to give them more exposure. If they plan on growing, I hope they will move around some of the community groups to the main area to highlight their cause and mission.
This event leaves me with a deep sense of community pride every year, and this year, I was so happy to see it coming back bigger and stronger than before. Brenda Mendez, one of the organizers, shared that next year’s event promises to be even bigger. It’s heartening to see such commitment to our community’s well-being and the health of our children.
So many people came out to enjoy the Chula Vista Day of the Child event. Along with vendor booths there was also live music and entertainment.
Don’t forget to get out there Chula Vista
Chula Vista events like these are crucial for our community—they provide vital health information and strengthen our bonds through shared experiences of music, dance, and heritage. If you missed this year’s event, follow us on Instagram or visit our website to stay updated on when significant events like this happen.
